I volunteered at my first Help-Portrait event in 2010 after learning about it from the movement’s founder, photographer Jeremy Coward. After many years of putting on a local event giving away free hair and makeup, a portrait, and a large framed print in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, I was super excited to introduce the concept to my new community of Prescott, Arizona.
Thanks to some help from the local newspaper, we were able to spread the word and bless over 35 guests with this special gift while also telling their story to get a head start on spreading the word for next year. A huge thanks to everyone who volunteered, especially photographers Lauren Ristow and Cynthia Ray, hair and makeup services and materials provided by Jenna MacDonald, Fortune Brandel, Jenna Thompson, and Courtney Ryan, Santa and his sleigh for dropping by with some special gifts, and all of my photography clients whose purchases paid for the prints, frames, and special gifts for the children through my #100PercentToCharity program.
